What We Do

1.       Hall of Fame

1.1   The Hall of Fame recognizes and celebrates –

(a)    world-class athletes, present and past, who began their journey in the Redlands local government area;

1.2   The Hall of Fame will provide for induction in one (1) category:-

(i)       World-Class Athlete

2.       Redlands Sports Awards

2.1   Redlands Sports Awards recognizes and celebrates-

(a)    Emerging Athletes, Coaches, Officials, Organizations, Administrators and Volunteers who have significantly contributed to the Redland City sporting community

2.2   Redlands Sports Awards  will provide for induction in eight (8) categories: -

(i)                 Emerging Athlete;

(ii)                Coach;

(iii)               Official;

(iv)               Organization;

(v)                Administrator;

(vi)               Volunteer;

(vii) Sportswoman of the Year

(viii) Sportsman of the Year

2.3   Inductees to the Hall of Fame shall only be appointed in accordance with the terms of this Policy.

2.4   Inductions to the Hall of Fame may occur every year depending on suitable nominations.

2.5   Two (2 inductees in the World-class category may be admitted to the Hall of Fame per Induction Year.

3.       Definitions and Interpretation

Unless otherwise provided, in this Policy the words in bold have the following meaning: -

“Administrator” means a person, whether employed or a Volunteer, who performs services for an Organization involving the management, conduct or implementation of a sporting competition for or on behalf of that Organization.

 “Sub-Committee” means the appointed body from time to time of the Victoria Point Sharks Sporting Club.

“Eligible Nomination” means a nomination that complies with the requirements of this Policy and any guidelines and regulations of the Redlands Coast Sporting Hall of Fame.

“Honours Committee” means the committee from time to time appointed by the Sub-Committee under this Policy to consider Eligible Nominations referred to it by the Nominations Committee and to make recommendations to the Redlands Coast Sporting Hall of Fame for induction into the Hall of Fame.

“Induction Year” means a year in which inductions to the Hall of Fame are authorized or permitted pursuant to this Policy.

“Nominations Committee” means the committee established under this Policy to seek Eligible Nominations from persons or bodies, as the case may be, for induction to the Hall of Fame pursuant to this Policy and any guidelines or regulations of the Redlands Coast Sporting Hall of Fame.

“Official” means a referee, umpire or other person who officiates in a competition..

“Organization” means a formal body or group that conducts, manages or oversees sporting competition in the Redlands local government area.

 “World-class Athlete” means an athlete who has competed in an Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, Commonwealth Games or equivalent level of competition.

4.       Nominations Committee

Membership

4.1   The Nominations committee shall consist of the following five (5) persons appointed by the Sub-Committee: -

(a)    a Chair who may be a member of the Redlands Coast Sporting Hall of Fame.

(b)    three (3) persons with experience or knowledge of sport, the sporting community in the Redlands or from the Local, State or Federal government sectors.  

(c)     a member of the Victoria Point Sharks Sporting Club.

Role

4.2   The Nominations Committee –

(a)    shall call for Eligible Nominations for induction to the Hall of Fame in accordance with this Policy and any guidelines and regulations of the Redlands Coast Sporting Hall of Fame.

(b)    may request further information and material in support of any nomination received.

(c)     must accept or reject any Eligible Nomination received.

(d)    may only accept a qualifying and appropriate Eligible Nomination by majority or unanimous vote.

(e)    must refer to the Honours Committee Eligible Nominations accepted by the Nominations Committee.

(f)      shall call of Nominations for the Redlands Sports Awards in all six (6) categories and make recommendations to the Redlands Coast Sporting Hall of Fame by majority or unanimous vote.

Tenure

4.3  

(a)    Each member shall hold office for a period of four (4) years, unless sooner removed by the Redlands Coast Sporting Hall of Fame or the member resigns and is eligible for re-appointment by the Redlands Coast Sporting Hall of Fame. Membership will be on a rolling basis with the Chair and member of the Victoria Point Sharks Sporting Club holding tenure for four (4) years and the three (3) persons with experience holding tenure for two (2) years in the initial phase of the Nominations Committee.

(b)    The Redlands Coast Sporting Hall of Fame may remove any member at any time and shall nominate a suitable replacement to any vacant position for the balance of the term of the vacating member. The replacement member may be re-appointed at the end of their current term.

5.       Honours Committee

              Membership

5.1   The Honours committee shall consist of the following five (5) persons appointed by the Sub-Committee: -

(a)    a Chair who may be a member of the Redlands Coast Sporting Hall of Fame.

(b)    Three (3) persons with experience or knowledge of sport, the sporting community in the Redlands or from the Local, State or Federal government sectors.  

(c)     a member of the Victoria Point Sharks Sporting Club.

               Role

5.2   The Honours Committee -

(a)    shall consider all Eligible Nominations for induction to the Hall of Fame received from the Nominations Committee.

       (b)   must vote on all such nominations.

       (c)   must approve all Eligible Nominations that receive at least four (4) votes in favour and  

               promptly advise the Redlands Coast Sporting Hall of Fame of all approved nominations.

       (d)    reject all nominations that are not approved.        

       (e)    report on its activities to the Redlands Coast Sporting Hall of Fame.

(f)     advise the Redlands Coast Sporting Hall of Fame from time to time of any changes it considers desirable or appropriate to the nomination process, criteria, composition of the Nominations Committee or Honours Committee or otherwise.

               Tenure and eligibility of Committee Members

5.3   (a).  Each member shall hold office for four (4) years, unless sooner removed by the Redlands Coast Sporting Hall of Fame or the member sooner resigns. A former member is eligible for re-appointment by the Redlands coast Sporting Hall of Fame. Membership will be on a rolling basis with the Chair and member of the Victoria Point Sharks Sporting Club holding tenure for four (4) years and the three (3) persons with experience holding tenure for two (2) years in the initial phase of the Nominations Committee.

(b)     A member shall declare any conflict of interest and shall be ineligible to as a member of the Honours Committee.

(c)      A current member of the Nominations Committee is not eligible for appointment to the Honours Committee. A former Nominations Committee member may be so appointed.

    6.       Nomination process for Inductees

        5.4 Subject to the guidelines and regulations of the Redlands Coast Sporting Hall of Fame from time to time:-

        (a) The Nominations Committee shall determine the date on which the call for nominations   

              to the Hall of Fame shall be made, its closing date and the date.

7.       Nominee Eligibility

         6.1 A World-class Athlete must have competed at an Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, Commonwealth Games or an equivalent level of competition as determined by the Redlands Coast Sporting Hall of Fame.

          6.2 A World-Class Athlete must be an Australian Citizen

         6.3 A Coach or Official or Administrator or Volunteer must be a member of an organization in the Redlands local government area who have made a material and substantial contribution to a sport for a period of ten (10) years or more.

          6.4. An Emerging Athlete is an athlete of merit who is not a World-Class Athlete.

          6.5 An Organization must have made a material and substantial contribution to sport for a

                  period of at least ten (10) years at the local, State, National or International level or

                  any one or more of those levels.   

        7. Amendment

            The Redlands Coast Sporting Hall of Fame may at any time and from time to time add to, change, repeal or otherwise amend this Policy.

       8. Conflict of Interest

                                Definition

                                A Conflict of Interest exists when:

(a)    It appears likely that an individual could be influenced; or

(b)    where it could be perceived that they are influenced;

by a personal interest in carrying out their duties owed to another party.

                                Such conflicts can be broken into three (3) general categories.

1.       Real Conflicts: where a direct conflict exists between a person’s current official duties and existing interests.

2.       Potential Conflicts: where a person’s private interests are not currently in direct conflict with a person’s official duties but could come into conflict in the future; and

3.       Perceived Conflicts: where it appears or could be perceived that a person’s private interests could come into direct conflict with their official duties.

In the context of entities involved in not-for-profit activities or public service, such as the Victoria Point Sharks Sporting Club, which rely heavily on their reputation to garner public support and co-operation, it is best that all three categories are treated with an equally high standard of severity and scrutiny. This is the case because the occurrence of any one of the three conflict categories can have significant and lasting detrimental impacts on the Victoria Point Sharks Sporting Clubs reputation and therefore its ability to fulfill its objectives in the local community.

In addition, where a conflict of interest exists in relation to a committee member involved in any given decision-making process, that process and any resulting decisions are exposed to challenge on the basis of bias, lack of procedural fairness or potentially general illegality.

With this in mind, it is important to remember that sub-committees formed by the Victoria Point sharks Sporting Club operate using the delegated authority of the executive committee and as a result, are subject to exactly the same level of scrutiny with respect to conflicts of interest and their decision-making process.
